UM6P: The first sovereign cloud marketplace is born in Morocco

Atlas Cloud Services (ACS), a subsidiary of Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P), unveiled the first sovereign cloud marketplace in Morocco during the Move to Cloud event held in Rabat on January 8, 2025.
“A key step in UM6P’s commitment to supporting the digitalization of Moroccan companies, this initiative aims to support companies in their digital transformation by offering them solutions adapted to their specific needs,” mentions the UM6P press release.

The same source specifies that the cloud marketplace, developed by ACS and Rkube, is an online platform allowing companies to provision services designed by ACS or compatible with its ecosystem. It also offers cloud-native applications that users can configure and manage independently.

“By adopting a multi-cloud architecture, this solution provides Moroccan companies with simplified access to various technological services, such as computing, storage, networks, artificial intelligence (AI) and the Internet of Things (IoT)”, it is indicated.

Note that thanks to a single portal (one-stop shop), users can centralize the management of their cloud platforms, thus optimizing their efficiency and reducing operational costs. “This offer is aimed at all types of businesses, as well as strategic sectors such as health, finance and industry, where data sovereignty is essential,” informs the same source. Additionally, this value proposition also meets the needs of technology startups, providing them with a scalable, flexible solution suited to their rapid growth.
That said, unlike traditional cloud solutions offered by international players, the ACS marketplace is distinguished by the localization of data in Morocco, full compliance with national regulations and an intuitive interface facilitating user autonomy. “It combines security, performance and flexibility, while meeting the specific needs of local businesses,” it is specified.

Finally, note that the event saw the participation of Amal El Fallah Seghrouchni, Minister Delegate to the Head of Government, responsible for Digital Transition and Administration Reform.

In her speech, she highlighted the role of the cloud in hosting the data necessary for the development of AI solutions, while emphasizing innovation and research as pillars of a successful digital transition.
