Casablanca: The “Cleanliness Police” coming soon

In the metropolis, as in other cities in the country, there are countless incivil behaviors that harm the environment. They range from abandoning a cup in a garden to disposing of household waste in any corner of the city, even though there is no shortage of bins and dumpsters. This is without mentioning the waste from construction sites which, in addition to their impact on the environment, is expensive for the city.

It is against this backdrop that discussions are well underway with a view to launching a “Cleanliness Police”. The project is “in the refinement phase” and should appear on the agenda for the February session, indicate our sources, while specifying that “the matter concerns everyone, from the authorities to the police, including the actors of the civil society and other citizens.

It should also be noted that this future police force will be authorized to fine any infraction, subject to a fine which must be set at 100 Dirhams, which will increase to double in the event of a repeat offense, indicate our sources. The fact remains that we do not intend to move on to sanctions from the start. Indeed, the verbalization will only be implemented after information, awareness and awareness campaigns.

The project, of which a first announcement was made in April 2023, will have to mobilize a budget which would be between 4 and 5 million Dirhams, which will be injected into the purchase of logistical equipment, cars, etc. To carry out its mission, the “cleanliness police” will have to rely on the contribution of images from DGSN video surveillance cameras to flush out possible offenders. Of course, on the ground this police will have to coordinate with elements of the SDL Casa Baïa.
