According to Donald Trump, this is a certainty, while the president-elect seems to want to expand the American territory.
Asked about this, Trump, relying on the trade deficit between the two countries, argued that he would use “economic force” to annex Canada, which would be subsidized by the United States.
But this argument is inaccurate according to international law expert Dan Kraft.
“The economies are very independent. It’s rhetoric according to my perception,” said the lecturer in international economic relations law at the University of Montreal on Wednesday.
Opinions differ among experts, but one thing is certain, concern is growing among Quebecers.
-“Donald Trump’s threats must be taken very seriously. Quebec has a unique opportunity to show solidarity and benefit from the Canadian market,” replied the interim leader of the Liberal Party of Quebec, Marc Tanguay.
An emergency meeting between Ottawa and the Canadian provinces will take place next Wednesday.
