Very good news for Senegal. The country has far exceeded oil forecasts for 2024.

Indeed, Senegal has achieved an important feat with regard to the annual production of crude oil from the Sangomar site.

For the year 2024, Senegal and its partners had made a forecast of 11.7 million barrels of oil for the Sangomar offshore field off the coast of Dakar.

But against all expectations, the site produced much more. The figures revealed by the Ministry of Energy, Petroleum and Mines on Tuesday January 7, 2025, reveal a performance well above initial forecasts.

“In 2024, annual production amounted to approximately 16.9 million barrels of crude oil, exceeding the initial target of 11.7 million barrels”said the minister.

Thus, annual production exceeds the initial objective set by Senegal and its partners by 5.2 million barrels.

According to the ministry, approximately 16.4 million barrels of crude produced by the Sangomar site, or almost all, were sold on the international market.

It should be noted that the Sangomar offshore field entered production on June 2, 2024. The site therefore produced 16.9 million barrels of crude oil in just six months.

According to the Minister of Energy, Petroleum and Mines, “at the end of December 2024, all the producing wells were commissioned. All wells are now available to be connected to production lines, in accordance with the optimized production schedule of each well, with a view to ensuring a total extraction of 100,000 barrels of crude oil per day.

It should be noted that the site includes 23 wells, including 11 production wells, 10 water injection wells and 2 gas injection wells.
