The Historical and Archaeological Society of Orne (SHAO) is offering a conference on January 11 at the Salle Baudelaire in Alençon. It will be hosted by Patrice Lajoye. It is entitled: “Literary texts in Orne patois. »
“Since the end of the 19the century, scholars and researchers endeavored to study the patois literature of Normandy and to draw up a catalogue. Two departments, however, are regularly ignored: Eure and Orne”indicates the SHAO in a press release.
South of the “Joret line”
Explanations exist: “the territory of these two departments is largely located south of the “Joret line”, a strip which demarcates the two major dialect areas of Normandy. However, the southern dialects of this line are less marked by Norman phonetic phenomena. In addition, part of the Orne does not fall within the Norman dialectological domain: the surroundings of Alençon, where Mainiot is spoken, and Perche, where Percheron is spoken. »
The project “Paroles de Normands” was initiated by the House of Research in Human Sciences of Caen. The objective: to put online all the texts in patois produced between the 15the century and 1918.”
In this conference, it will be discussed “to take stock of texts and authors already known, but also to present new developments, and to see where, and under what conditions, we wrote in patois in the Orne department”.
