SENEGAL-WEATHER / The wave of freshness will persist until February (forecaster) – Senegalese press agency

Dakar, Jan 7 (APS) – The wave of cool weather which has affected a large part of the country since December will continue until February before beginning a transition towards increasingly warm temperatures, indicated, Tuesday, Diabel Ndiaye, head of the Climate Services department of the National Civil Aviation and Meteorology Agency (ANACIM).

”If we make a monthly evolution of temperatures, we can say that during this month of January, we will have the continuity of the freshness which has been blowing over a good part of the country since December 2024,” said Mr. Ndiaye at the APS.

He added that during the month of January, “we will have relatively cool temperatures with moderate probabilities over much of the country.”

Diabel Ndiaye indicated that during the month of February, ”a slight increase in temperatures, marked by a gradual transition towards increasingly warm temperatures, will be recorded”.

Mr. Ndiaye, however, specified that ”the cool weather will persist during this month until the end in the western half of the country, precisely on the coastal fringe between Dakar and the town of Mbour in the Thiès region”.

But, in March, “we will witness the gradual onset of heat which will reach peaks especially in the eastern part of the country”, he announced.

According to Diabel Ndiaye, this is an average trend in temperatures forecast from January to March 2025.

He indicated that ANACIM will continue to provide daily and monthly forecasts to refine these quarterly temperature trends and outlooks.
