- The association “Citoyennes!” will encourage female political engagement in the Avenches enclave.
- A series of conferences will begin in January with inspiring female entrepreneurs.
- The collective aims to increase female representation for the 2026 local elections.
- At the end of 2024, Avenches has only 20% of female councilors out of 50 available seats.
With Mauricette Cachemaillethe Broyarde region can boast of having sheltered the first woman in the country sworn in in a Legislative Assembly, in 1959 in Moudon. But it is clear that political commitment seems to motivate women less, particularly in the enclave of Avenches. “In order to remedy this, the seven municipal councils of the former district are proposing a cycle of conferences extending over the year 2025,” announces the “Citoyennes!” collective.
In the Roman city, only 20% of them occupy the 50 seats currently allocated (out of 55 in total) to the Municipal Council. If Faoug and Vully-les-Lacs fare better with, respectively, 34.2% and 28% elected in 2021, these totals remain lower than the national average, which amounted to 39.3% elected. in the deliberative bodies of the cities, in 2023. As for Cudrefin, the municipality had only 3 women out of 35 elected officials (8.6%). “We also see that those who leave during the legislature are more easily replaced by men,” notes Camille Marion, green municipalist in Avenches.
Jura idea
On a Jura idea imported by Laure Ryser, PLR union member of AvenchesLaetitia Poinçot, elected in Faoug, Florine Jeanrenaud in Avenches, Laetitia Kohler and Claire-Marie Spahr in Vully-les-Lacs, as well as Christine Carrel in Cudrefin therefore formed a transpartisan association last December. “The idea is to encourage women to get involved in local politics, but also in civic life, by highlighting female personalities,” continues the PLR Laetitia Kohler.
The first event will take place Thursday January 30 at the Avenches cellar (7:30 p.m.), with a conference entitled “Entrepreneurs: ambition, audacity and success”. Madeleine Ruedin, winemaker in Salavaux, Laetitia Stauffacher from Restaurant des Bains in Avenches, and Elisa Hurni, founder of the Genuine Women Trois-Lacs network, will present their inspiring professional journey.
Three other meetings are planned in May in Cudrefin, in September in Vully-les-Lacs and in November in Faoug. Four elected members of the Legislature will speak in particular in September. Enough to strengthen the place of women in view of the 2026 municipal elections.
