It is a part of the history of Thomerybut more generally of the history of the painting, which has just been seriously damaged. Indeed, while its restoration was to begin in the spring, the pavilion of the museslocated in the heart of the park Rosa Bonheur castlebore the brunt of the storm Floriane. Thus, on Monday January 6, around 2 p.m., while gusts of wind were felt in the four corners of Seine-et-, a century-old oak tree was uprooted by the elements and collapsed on this older building. of 200 ans.

“We heard a huge crack”

“Luckily we were closed, so there was no audience. And we also told the gardeners not to work outdoors that day. It was early in the afternoon that we heard a huge crackbut we were not reckless, so we did not go straight to see what had happened,” says the owner of the place, Katherine Brault.

Finally, it was the next day, Tuesday January 7 in the morning, that the teams at the former home of the famous animal painter discovered the extent of the damage.

“It’s a tree that is at least a hundred years old, but which was not leaning, unlike another one right next to it which held up. The problem is that he came across the pavilion of the muses, which seriously damaged zinc roof “, she confides.

» An important place for Rosa Bonheur «

Enough to arouse strong emotion in Katherine Brault: “This building is an 18th century factory.e century which is an important place for Rosa Bonheur, since it is the place where she worked among her animalsin the park, surrounded by nature. What’s more, we had to start its restoration in the spring,” she laments.

Fortunately, the frescoes that were inside the factory do not seem to have been impacted by the fall of this tree.

In the coming days, the castle teams will therefore have to call on a specialized company to remove the oak, then check with the insurance companies to find out if the repair of the damage will be covered: “If not, we will have to call on the Heritage Foundation or to our patrons,” she concludes.
