According to the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) Global Innovation Index (GII) 2024 report, titled « Unlocking the Promise of Social Entrepreneurship »Senegal ranks 4th among the 10 most dynamic African countries in innovation.
This recognition is based on four main criteria: investment in science and innovation, technological progress, adoption of technologies and the socio-economic impact of innovations.
The report highlights Senegal’s major advances in fintech, smart agriculture, renewable energy and ICT, driven by favorable public policies and an expanding entrepreneurial ecosystem. Dakar, which has become a regional technological hub, illustrates this dynamic.
However, challenges remain, including access to financing for startups and strengthening intellectual property. This distinction nevertheless confirms the growing role of Senegal as a key player in innovation in Africa.
