The Compagnie Sucrière Sénégalaise (CSS) has confirmed that it has sufficient stocks to ensure the supply of sugar to the Senegalese market. During a press briefing held this Tuesday, Guillaume Ranson, general director of CSS, wanted to reassure consumers about the availability of this essential commodity.
“I want to tell the population, particularly Senegalese consumers, that CSS has sufficient stocks to properly supply the Senegalese market and even major upcoming events,” said Mr. Ranson. This statement was made after a guided tour of the company’s facilities, followed by the press conference.
Accompanied by Ousmane Diallo, regional director of internal trade of Saint-Louis, Guillaume Ranson specified that the CSS currently has more than 60,000 tonnes of sugar in stocks, divided between 15,000 tonnes in Dakar and more than 45,000 tonnes in Richard -Toll, where the CSS factories are located.
Guillaume Ranson also recalled that the harvest began in November 2024, and that the company had already produced more than forty thousand tons of sugar in just two months. He took the opportunity to deny rumors of sugar shortages and stock tensions.
For his part, Ousmane Diallo assured that market supply would be guaranteed for the next six months. “We noted today that there are sufficient stocks at the level of the CSS, which ensures the production of sugar on the national territory. The forecasts show that there is a fairly sufficient quantity to adequately supply the market,” he said.
Mr. Diallo also denounced the comments of certain trade players whom he accused of sowing speculation likely to force the State to open the market to imports of products competing with local production. He added that regular checks are carried out in the markets, stressing that the sugar sector “constitutes an issue for national security”.
