Morocco invests in the production of electric batteries

Karim Zidane, Moroccan Minister of Investment, Convergence and Evaluation of Public Policies, met, Tuesday January 7, Yang Shuzhan, vice-president of the Chinese group BTR New Material Group, a world leader in the manufacturing of materials for electric batteries.

This meeting is part of the monitoring of strategic investment projects initiated by BTR in Morocco.
At the center of the discussions was the progress of work on the cathode production plant, an essential component of electric batteries. This industrial unit, launched in early 2024, will have an annual production capacity of 50,000 tonnes.

The meeting also focused on the project to build a second factory, this time dedicated to anodes, within the Cité Mohammed VI Tanger Tech. With a planned capacity of 25,000 tonnes per year, this infrastructure will complete the group’s industrial offering. These two projects, with a total cost of more than 6 billion dirhams, should be operational by 2026.

Beyond their industrial impact, these investments promise significant benefits. More than 1,100 highly skilled jobs will be created, helping to strengthen local skills and establish a complete value chain for the electric mobility industry in Morocco.
