Just 10 years ago, on January 7, 2015, terrorists stormed the offices of the satirical newspaper Charlie Hebdo. In the process, other attacks in the Paris region attacked police officers as well as a kosher supermarket. In total, these tragic events which will last until January 9 will cause 17 victims and 22 injured.
Everywhere in France, the emotion and then the mobilization are immense. In Vaucluse, we are witnessing unprecedented gatherings.
Well beyond the first official estimates, nearly 30,000 people took to the streets of Avignon to take part in the tribute paid the following Sunday to the victims of the attacks.
This unprecedented surge affects the entire department. There will be more than 3,500 of them marching through the streets of Apt. There will also be several thousand Vauclusians each time in Cavaillon, Sorgues, Orange and Isle-sur-la-Sorgue as well as 1,800 in Lourmarin. At the same time, several hundred people will gather at Thor as well as in villages like Sablet, Séguret, Aubignan, Caderousse, Châteauneuf-de-Gadagne, Bédarrides, Vacqueyras, Cucuron, Lauris, Lapalud… There will even be 400 on the slopes of Ventoux.
In the Rhone Gard, the gatherings will attract more than 3,000 people to Pont-Saint-Esprit and 500 to Villeneuve-lès-Avignon. The day before these Sunday meetings, several thousand Vauclusians had already participated in gatherings in Bollène, Malaucène and even Tour d'Aigues.
