The Mohammed V University of Rabat stands out at the top of the national ranking, placing 24e in Africa and 983e globally, according to the “AD Scientific Index” 2025. Other Moroccan universities, such as Cadi Ayyad and Hassan II, also show notable progress.

Mohammed V University of Rabat took the lead nationally, ranking 24e in Africa and 983e globally in the latest ranking published by the “AD Scientific Index” of public universities for 2025.

Cadi Ayyad University of Marrakech follows closely, positioning itself in second place nationally, with a ranking of 37e in Africa and 1314e globally. Hassan II University of Casablanca places third nationally, obtaining 40e position in Africa and the 1373e at the global level. Sidi Mohamed Ben Abdellah University of Fez ranks fourth, appearing at 49e place in Africa and 1499e at the global level. As for the Ibn Zohr University of Agadir, it occupies fifth national position, with a ranking of 69e in Africa and 1787e on a global scale.

This ranking includes 22 public establishments in Morocco, highlighting a significant improvement in the quality of scientific research and higher education in the country.

In Africa, South African universities dominate the rankings, with the University of Cape Town leading the way, followed by the University of Stellenbosch, the University of the Witwatersrand, the University of Pretoria, the University of KwaZulu-Natal and the University of Johannesburg, which respectively occupy the first six places. According to the “AD Scientific Index” report, establishments that have succeeded in increasing their number of international-level researchers have observed a notable progression in their positioning.

The progress made by the Hassan II University of Casablanca in terms of research, in particular thanks to an increase in citations and high-impact scientific publications, was decisive for its rise in the ranking.

Internationally, Harvard University remains at the top of the world rankings, with more than 2,400 active researchers and scientists in various disciplines.

The University of São Paulo in Brazil occupies the second position worldwide, supported by more than 1900 researchers, while the University of Michigan in the United States remains among the top institutions, with around 1800 top researchers.
