She explains that after nearly 10 years in municipal politics, first as a councilor and for 3 and a half years as mayor, she feels that the time has come to serve Drummondville differently.
“Politics is a true vocation that offers unparalleled happiness and pride, but also imposes rigorous demands. […] This decision was not taken lightly, because Drummondville holds a unique place in my heart. […] I am deeply grateful for the trust you have placed in me and for the honor you have given me by allowing me to serve this city,” said Ms. Lacoste.
-Among the key moments of her time as mayor, she remembers the launch of Fortissimo, the construction of the baseball stadium and the development of affordable housing.
Stéphanie Lacoste will finish her mandate until the next elections this fall. She does not specify what her plans will be after municipal political life.
In Drummondville, citizens are surprised by this decision. Many had kind words for their mayor, while maintaining that life as a politician, particularly for women, remains a great daily challenge.
