Fisheries and Oceans Canada indicated Monday morning that 1,240 tonnes of corn were removed from the boat and placed in a first barge.
A second barge is in transit to the ship and is expected to arrive Monday afternoon, the federal ministry said in an update on the situation.
The second unloading of the cargo should then begin during the day and end on Tuesday morning. THE MV MACCOA contained more than 3,000 metric tons of corn.
-“An attempt to refloat the ship could take place on Wednesday January 8 in the morning. Due to operational constraints, the exact start time of operations remains unknown at this time,” says Fisheries and Oceans Canada.
A first operation to free the ship MV MACCOAusing three tugboats, ran aground at the end of December. The second attempt was to take place last week. However, it was postponed due to delays linked to the two Groupe Océan barges, which had still not left Quebec last Thursday.
The MV MACCOA ran aground in the Verchères sector, in Montérégie, on December 24 due to a widespread power outage, the origin of which is not yet known.
