“Zazou Youssef”, as he calls himself on social networks, has an appointment next month with justice. Algerian influencer Youcef A., his real name, will be tried on February 24 by the Brest criminal court for “public apology for an act of terrorism committed by means of an online public communication service”, announced the Brest public prosecutor's office, Saturday July 4.
Aged 25, the suspect is accused of having incited, in a video published on social networks, to commit attacks in France against opponents of the Algerian regime. The police were alerted on December 31 thanks to a report on the Pharos platform.
Arrested on Friday in Brest, he was placed in pre-trial detention following his police custody on Saturday afternoon. He faces a sentence of seven years' imprisonment and a fine of 100,000 euros, the prosecutor specifies in his press release.
From a judicial source at France Bleu Breizh Izel, the influencer had been sentenced for damage in the context of the riots linked to the death of young Nahel in Nanterre (Hauts-de-Seine) in the summer of 2023, but his sentence did not was not executed because he had appealed.
