The weather forecast is expected to be choppy until the middle of next week. Rain and even snow at low altitudes are expected throughout the next few days with the added bonus of sometimes strong winds. But subsequently, an anticyclonic blockage should be put in place.

Will this encourage a supply of cold air to ? On the contrary, will the temperatures be exceptionally and lastingly mild? Update on trends through these new lines that we offer you.

Anticyclonic

By the second part of next week, an anticyclonic parenthesis will set in. Depressions will be present especially over Central Europe as well as towards Italy / Mediterranean basin.

This configuration will promote calmer weather in France with nighttime clearings. Negative temperatures, but common for the period, are to be expected. Also, more pronounced cold could be observed, including at very low altitude, if a little snow were to cover the ground a few days before.

After the big spell this weekend, the cold will quickly return next week.

Winter weather which should persist over the next weekend with possible returns from the east towards the Alps in particular. But from the following week, an anticyclonic blockage could occur.

Blocking of depressions and cold drops in the Mediterranean

This anticyclonic blockage could even begin during the next weekend. In fact, the latter will extend from Portugal to the Scandinavian countries. This will have the consequence of block the arrival of disturbances from the Atlantic and therefore to keep the weather very calm in France (but not only).

This anticyclonic weather will draw cold air aloft. Frosts are therefore expected to be frequent, including in the plains, with days sometimes without thaw. This will depend on the presence of low clouds or not.

We will still monitor returns from the east which could persist towards the eastern massifs and more particularly the Alps. These could bring frequent snow showers. However, the bulk of the agitation should be focused on Greece.

No snow on the plains?

Concerning the risk of snow in the plains, this promises to be present between next Wednesday and Thursday. The anticyclonic trend will then limit any precipitation in the plain areas. However, the little snow that fell locally could lead to lower temperatures during the nights.

For example, a snowy place could have minimums of around -8°C compared to -4°C on non-snowy ground. In both cases it will be cold with values rather lower than normal.

By January 20, a development favorable to a mild spell could occur but with the dominance of the anticyclone. To be continued on Tameteo.com.
