Météo-France announces a winter episode including snow and freezing rain, requiring particular vigilance from Saturday January 4, 2025, at 9 p.m. until Sunday January 5, at 12 p.m. Following a widespread cold air mass across the northeast, a disturbance will arrive at the end of the day and bring significantly milder air. It will cross the region from the southwest to the northeast. The meeting of these two air masses will lead to winter precipitation when the disturbance arrives, from the end of the afternoon. Snow and freezing rain are forecast. Precipitation will continue thereafter, but will lose its freezing character.
5 cm of snow expected
In Moselle in particular, snow could fall in significant quantities, locally 5 cm, and persist for a few hours on the ground. Traffic conditions could become difficult across the entire network, particularly in the forestry sector where falling trees could increase the difficulties. Some damage could affect the electricity distribution and telephone networks. The risk of accidents will be increased.
The Moselle prefecture therefore asks to limit travel, adapt the speed of vehicles to the condition of the road and scrupulously respect safety distances. But also, to facilitate the passage of road salting machines, in particular by parking vehicles correctly, to protect themselves from falls and to protect others by clearing the sidewalk in front of homes, but also to install generators outside the house and not to use combustion heaters continuously.
