Saturday January 11 afternoon, in Sartilly-Baie-Bocage, in the South Channel, Jessica Hugues, 4th Dan black belt, will lead a body-karate course open to all. She is world team kata champion in 2011 in Malaysia, among juniors, then European team champion 2012 in Tenerife in Spain. She also took 3rd place at the world championships in Paris-Bercy a few weeks later with her teammates from the French team. After a 3rd European team place in 2018, Jessica Hugues ended her career the following year before writing about herself in a book, Fighter for lifepublished in 2023.
Suffering from an extremely rare disease which ultimately condemns her to blindness, she reveals her difficult daily fight to become one of the best karatekas of her generation. A trajectory broken in March 2015 during a team kata demonstration, during which she broke her neck following a fall on her head.
World vice-champion Romain Lacoste arrives
The next morning, Sunday January 12, the Budokan Sartilly-Baie-Bocage will welcome Romain Lacoste, 5th Dan black belt, for a karate-kata course, reserved only for licensees of the FFK (French Karate Federation). Vice-world champion of kata in 2005, then vice-European champion and again on the podium (3rd) at the world championships, Romain Lacoste has multiplied the titles of French champion in the discipline, both individually and by team , between 2004 and 2007. He will lead an advanced kata course Kanku Daï.
“The coming to Sartilly-Baie-Bocage of two high-level champions like Jessica Hughes and Romain Lacoste is part of the DNA of Budokan Sartilly-Baie-Bocage and corresponds to its expectations because the club has strong ambitions,” says Pascal Alamgarom, coach of the host club.
