Mohamed Sektaoui, director general of Amnesty Maroc (Amnesty Morocco), died early this Saturday in a private clinic in Rabat following a heart attack.
In a statement to Hespresshis friend, the former secretary general of the Moroccan Organization for Human Rights (OMDH), Mohamed Neshnash, deplored the disappearance of“a fellow activist and one of the main defenders of human rights in Morocco”.
Aziz Ghali, president of the Moroccan Association for Human Rights (AMDH), also paid tribute to him on his Facebook account, sharing a photo featuring Moroccan human rights activists, including Neshnash and the late Sektaoui.
“The human rights activist and general director of Amnesty Morocco, Professor Mohamed Sektaoui, who left our world, is a great loss for the human rights movement in Morocco at a time when we have deeply need such leading personalities”he wrote.
-To add: “It is truly a great loss to say goodbye to you, Professor Mohamed Sektaoui. My most sincere condolences to his family, comrades and friends. We all share this deep sadness.”
The funeral of Mohamed Sektaoui is planned for this Saturday afternoon after the Asr prayer at the Chouhada cemetery in Rabat, in the presence of family, friends and relatives.
