“They need everything”: in Manche, an association created to help

Around sixty Mahorais live in the Manche department. Some of them have just created “Mahorais de la Manche, solidarity for Mayotte” to help the overseas department affected by Cyclone Chido in mid-December. Based at the town hall of Agneaux, near Saint-Lô, the association is chaired by Raffion Mari, a Norman for 25 years.

“It’s urgent”

With other residents of Mayotte and their families, he would like to collect food, clothing, medical or school equipment. But for the moment, they are waiting to have certainty about the delivery and distribution of donations on the island of Mayotte. “When we call associations there, we understand that they need everything, summarizes Raffion Mari. But for the moment, it is an emergency and the logistics to manage an arrival of donations have not yet been put in place. »

In the meantime, the association will collect financial donations in La Manche. “We will then contact NGOs such as the Red Cross. » For its part, the municipality of Agneaux and its mayor Patrick Simon will install a ballot box in the hall of the town hall. In the longer term, the Mahorais de la Manche association could support micro-projects.
