Despite a diplomatic and economic recovery with Morocco, announced by the Abraham Accords in December 2020, the popular position towards Israel does not gain any points. Since October 7, 2023, the hostility expressed towards the Jewish state has even increased, according to Channel 12. In the context of the war of occupation led by the Israeli army in the Gaza Strip, the media recently recalled that flights to and from the kingdom had been halted, while thousands of citizens took to the streets to protest Tel Aviv’s policies.

In its analysis, the channel notably exploited a few news items, including one that occurred in Fez, on October 24, 2024, when a Moroccan woman and her family arrested an Israeli tourist, because of a disagreement over the fact of filming them. without their consent. For the media, these would be “racist incidents” which would even reflect a certain “anti-Semitism”.

Further, the channel refers to Reuters, stating that with more than 5,000 demonstrations in support of Palestine, Morocco is one of the five countries that have seen the highest number of rallies against Israel, in the context of the war in Gaza. The other countries are the United States, Yemen, Turkey and Iran.

Additionally, 188 local and national marches were held in the kingdom, 817 solidarity events with Gaza, 8 national days of protest and 21 sit-ins calling for a boycott of businesses supporting Israel.

The Hebrew channel also referred to a poll carried out in Morocco by the Haspress media, on the popular position concerning the Palestinian cause. The results suggest that 97.1% of citizens support Hamas’ action on October 7, 2023, as an act of resistance to the occupation.

According to the channel, “the vast majority of citizens oppose maintaining relations with Israel and call for a break, due to the actions of the Israeli army in Gaza.”
