Marguerittes (Gard) – The Baumel armory, renowned in the hunting and sport shooting sector, was the target of a spectacular burglary on the night of Wednesday to Thursday January 2.
Nearly sixty weapons, including Kalashnikovs, automatic and semi-automatic pistols, as well as submachine guns, were stolen around 4 a.m. Ammunition also went missing.
The event has caused great concern within the community. Contacted by France Bleu Gard Lozère, Rémi Nicolas, mayor of Marguerittes, spoke about this incident: “The Baumel armory is known well beyond our town, it is a reference in the world of hunting and shooting . It is a respected company. »
Despite reinforced security measures, including alarms, video surveillance and armored doors, the criminals were able to circumvent these measures. “They knew where to look, which suggests that this was a prepared and organized act.
It was not hunting rifles that were taken, but handguns, which could direct the investigation towards criminal circles,” added the councilor.
An investigation was immediately opened to identify the perpetrators of this burglary and find the stolen weapons.
The police are mobilizing to prevent any risk linked to the circulation of these weapons in parallel circuits.
