Invited on franceinfo Thursday January 2, the local secretary FO Justice, Catherine Forzi, discusses the trip of the Minister of Justice to Marseille and in particular to the Baumettes prison. Gérald Darmanin said he wanted “hit the wallet” drug traffickers. The minister also returned to his controversial proposal to strengthen isolation in detention “of the 100 biggest drug traffickers”explaining that he wanted to make a “show apartment”as in real estate. For the trade unionist, the announcements made by Gérald Darmanin “cannot be done without a budget”.
According to Catherine Forzi, to place the detainees as Gérald Darmanin wishes to do, “we need to build new prisons because today the isolation areas are all overcrowded.” The trade unionist – who was not received by the minister but by his chief of staff – wants Gérald Darmanin “hear what we have been asking for many years at FO Justice, it is the classification of establishments […] We need to stop mixing everyone with everyone.” and all that, she repeats “can’t be done without a budget”. “We will see if he manages to have the budget needed for justice, she concludesknowing that the prison administration is always the last wheel of the carriage.”
