Sky Sports was forced to apologize to viewers after Michael van Gerwen let slip a swear word following his victory over Chris Dobey at the World Darts Championship.
The Dutchman advanced to the final in style, dropping just one set before securing a one-sided victory. He will face either Luke Littler or Stephen Bunting as he looks to win his first world darts championship title in six years.
Van Gerwen was clearly excited after beating Dobey, averaging 98.84 and hitting 43 percent of his doubles along the way.
In his live post-match interview on Sky Sports, he was asked if securing world domination for the fourth time would be the highlight of his career.
He replied bluntly, “That’s something to worry about tomorrow.” I don't care. I'm in the final. I've already won everything, so I'll try to do it tomorrow.
Sky Sports journalist Abigail Davies was quick to respond to Van Gerwen's slip of the tongue, saying: “I'm going to have to apologize for that language.”
Mighty Mike was also asked about his immediate thoughts after brushing aside Dobey to reach the final without really getting out of second gear.
“A 99 average isn’t too bad,” he said. “I am happy with the performance. I didn't play as explosively as in the last match but I was effective.
“When I had to do things, I did it at the right time and that’s what you have to do to win games. There are always ups and downs but today I had the right mentality. Even when things didn't go the way I wanted, I produced good things at the right times.
-Van Gerwen made it clear he was not getting ahead of himself despite making the final, adding: “We are still so far away. I still have to fight. Tomorrow is another day and the title is far away. This is what we must continue to tell ourselves.
“I don’t want to make mistakes. I want to keep it that way. I love performing on stage. It's my passion, it's my life. Of course, I have a family now, but it is what it is. I enjoyed it tonight.
