It is the story of a friendship born at Etoile Mouzillonnaise de football, which made them New Year's Eve companions.

To better understand what brings together these five couples from Mouzillona commune in the vineyard, for 40 years now, it is appropriate to go back to the genesis of this friendship which was until then kept secret.

It's early January 1985, we all meet up at football and everyone asks the other what they did for New Year's Eve. And there, big surprise! Each of us was left alone at home, bored, even though we could have been, if we had known how to wake up together. This is where the idea came from to come together for this first edition on December 31, 1985.

In this group, there are the deans Marie-Jo and Frédo Airieau, Christine and Pascal Huet who are the youngest, in charge of the perpetual secretariat.

Then Isabelle and Michel Bousseau, Marie-Claire and Bernard Sourisseau and finally Nicole and Jean-Marie Girard.

A memorable first

This first edition apparently went wonderfully, before the weather got involved.

They all say:

“We have to put the context in place. At the time, there were still traffic lights in the town of Mouzillon. We had had a good party, and when we wanted to leave all the roads were icy. Some of us couldn't get through these lights, the cars didn't want to go up. So we had to persist and gain momentum to get out of this bad situation.”

That evening there was on the menu: fish soup, fish casserole, ostrich steak and grilled fruit skewers.

How do you remember the menu so accurately after so many years?

Quite simply because everything is meticulously written down in a notebook every year. We note the menu and the names of the hosts

A lot of little details

We can imagine through of these writings that nothing is left to chance in this organization and it is.

This little collection also contains a number of small details that are really important for the smooth running of the evening.

We take into account everyone's tastes and preferences, but it also happens that people are allergic, so nothing is left to chance.

Bernard Sourisseau

But to party, you sometimes have to be rigorous in your preparation.

A place of choice in the agenda

“Every year, the first dates we put in our diary are those of our New Year’s Eve. It starts with May 1, where whoever received the last New Year's Eve organizes a picnic. Then we organize a thalassotherapy weekend in October, and It is upon returning from this happy weekend that we find ourselves at the next host's house to prepare the feasts for next New Year's Eve.

Everyone is responsible for preparing a dish and planning the wine to accompany it. The team also shares the highlights experienced by one or the other, so we note the children's weddings where we officiated as drink shooters, or other birthdays and retirement sprinkles,” adds the small team.

Everyone pitches in

Respect for others is one of the fundamental bases of these New Year's Eve companions, just like friendship and loyalty.

Everyone puts hands on to prevent the host from being overwhelmed by the preparations for the evening.

Thus, we can see several people taking turns at the stove, each cook manages his dish and everyone can enjoy the moment.

Seating at the table is done by drawing lots, in the spirit of equality.

Beyond this strong friendship:

Everyone considers themselves part of a small family that shares all the good times, but also the bad times.

This special fortieth anniversary edition allowed everyone to start the year with joy and good humor, and to continue to follow their lucky star… in Mouzillon.
