50 years ago, on January 3, 1975, the municipal cultural center of Mayenne opened at 10, place de Louis-de-Hercé, in Mayenne. It was created at the initiative of the City, when Claude Leblanc was mayor. “It was a place of global entertainment, which contributed to social and cultural life,” remembers Jean-Louis Chemin, former host and director. In a letter dated January 16, 1975, he wrote that the home was “open to all Mayenne residents aged 15 to 95”.
Jean-Louis Chemin remembers the “big house” who hosted the home on “four levels”. On the ground floor, he describes “a large games room for young people, with table football, billiards, etc. » in addition to a “disco in the old kitchen”. He continues: “On the first floor there was a room for meetings, conferences or exhibitions, etc. On the second floor, we organized workshops: photo lab, pottery, dance, choir, etc. We converted the attic to create an audiovisual workshop. »
