An entrepreneur was recently arrested by the Royal Gendarmerie of Aït Melloul, for his alleged involvement in a fraud to which victims of the Al-Haouz earthquake were victims, after the embezzlement of funds allocated to the reconstruction of damaged homes. According to the Ministry of the Interior, investigations showed the involvement of three entrepreneurs in similar facts. In his response to a parliamentary question on this subject, Minister Abdelouafi Laftit indicated that the first suspect had scammed 14 beneficiaries in Douar Taghazout and 4 others in Tinmel.
According to department data, the man did not respect the terms of the contracts concluded to complete the work, particularly in terms of technical standards. The authorities called on victims to file complaints, which led to the arrest of the suspect. The same source indicates that another entrepreneur, in Douar Tassa Ouirgane, is also involved. A third, living in Beni Mellal, is accused of non-compliance with his contract with nine beneficiaries of Douars Tazert, Mrigha and Laazib, in the commune of Ouirgane.
Concerning the agents of authority, an administrative assistant at the douar of Mrigha in the same locality was dismissed from his functions, for extortion in exchange for promises of intervention in order to enable households to benefit from the planned aid.
