Vigilance. A security operation carried out jointly by elements of National Security, Customs and the Royal Gendarmerie, Monday evening at the El Guerguerat border post, south of the city of Dakhla, made it possible to foil an attempt to smuggle a cargo of 3,575 tonnes of Chira (cannabis resin) on board an international transport truck registered in Morocco, according to MAP, citing a security source.

The truck was subjected to a careful search, using sniffer dogs, which led to the discovery of a quantity of 3.575 tonnes of Chira, hidden in a cargo of frozen fish, specifies the same source, also reporting of the arrest of the driver of the truck used in the attempted trafficking of the seized drugs, a 29-year-old Moroccan citizen.

A preliminary investigation was opened under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor’s office, in order to elucidate the circumstances of this case, identify the people involved and identify the ramifications of these criminal activities both in Morocco and on a regional and international scale, adds the same source.
