An atypical and sympathetic figure of rock made in Switzerland, Bernie Constantin died at the age of 77. The singer died at home this Thursday, January 2, according to our colleagues from “24 Heures”.
Born in Ayent (VS), Bernie Constantin made his musical debut in 1964 with his first group Les Anges Blancs. It was at the National Expo that same year that he became known. He abandoned his studies in graphic arts to launch himself into showbiz for the long term.
He participated in the adventure of other groups, such as the Daltons and the Shpoones. During the second half of the 1960s, he traveled the United States, performed on stage and recorded an album allowing him to sign with the WEA label.
Back in Switzerland, he became a bistro owner in Valais. In 1982, he released a song that would become a hit: “Switzerland Reggae”. “Lola Berlingot” will also follow.
We could hear him for several years at the microphone of Couleur 3 where he hosted “Les Jeudis de Bernie” every week, from 2005 to 2012. In 2016 he released his last album, “Easy Bang Bang”.
