A joyful event turned into a shocking drama this Sunday, December 29, 2024, in the Messéré district of Thiaroye, where a woman in her thirties, Khardiata Ba, tragically lost her life during a baptism. Coming from Bargny to attend this party, Khardiata would never have imagined that her day would end in such tragedy.
A festive day that turns into a disaster
As reported The Observerthe day had started as planned: members of the community of nationals from a neighboring country had come from the four corners of the Dakar suburbs to celebrate a baptism. Khardiata Ba, accompanied by her mother and sisters, was among the guests and actively participated in the festivities, chatting and mingling with the other participants. Nothing seemed to foreshadow the terrible turn of events to come.
After sharing lunch with the other guests, she retires under a tarpaulin provided for this purpose to rest. At 6:30 p.m., with the ceremony in full swing, she sat, observing the guests dancing to the music. But suddenly, without warning, Khardiata stands up and collapses. At first glance, it seemed like simple discomfort. But when she gets up, she falls again, more seriously this time.
The drama is confirmed
First responders intervened immediately, attempting to stabilize her, but Khardiata collapsed once again, this time in a room where she suffocated and died within minutes. The once joyous celebration then turns into a scene of sadness.
Alerted, the police went to the scene to make initial findings. During interrogation, the deceased’s mother revealed that Khardiata was suffering from an illness, although she did not give further details on the nature of it. The lifeless body of Khardiata Ba was transported to the Idrissa Pouye hospital in Grand-Yoff, where an autopsy will be carried out to determine the exact causes of her death.
This tragic incident leaves great sadness in the neighborhood, and the community that was present at the baptism now remembers an event that was supposed to be festive and ended in pain. The police are continuing their investigation to clarify this dark affair.
