: Canada is right over Croatia at the United Cup

Even though the task was more complex than expected, the Canadian team composed of Leylah Annie Fernandez and Félix-Auger-Aliassime defeated Croatia at the United Cup.

In this best-of-three competition, Canada needed the doubles match to secure the first duel in Group A.

At the curtain-raiser, Fernandez succeeded in his mission. She defeated Donna Vekic in two sets of 6-4, 6-3.

Up 1-0, Canada could therefore win its first match with a victory for FAA in the second singles match.

The Quebecer faced Borna Coric and set the tone for the duel by winning 6-0 in the first round.

Unfortunately for Canada and Auger-Aliassime, Coric regained momentum during the second round. He got his hands on the set by winning 6-4 to force a final set, which he ultimately won by a score of 6-4 as well.

The doubles match between Fernandez and Auger-Aliassime and the Croatian duo of Vekic and Ivan Dodig, however, went to the advantage of the Canadians, who dominated 6-3 and 6-4.

This victory was achieved in 1 hour 06 minutes.

Canada will face the United States on Sunday.
