On Sunday, December 22, around 5 p.m., the Saujon gendarmes were called to intervene in a Traveler camp in Médis, near Royan. A man had just received two stab wounds to the left shoulder. His partner was also injured in the leg. Both were alcoholics and had used cocaine. They were placed in police custody. Hospitalized, the man was prescribed a ten-day ITT.
This Friday, December 27, only the woman, aged 33, native of Val-d'Oise, is present in the defendants' cage, at the Saintes criminal court. She admits to having stabbed but explains it as a defensive gesture, in reaction to violence. “He told me that it was me or it was him, that he was going to take fifteen years…”
This relationship is harmful. I should have filed a complaint a long time ago, I wouldn't be here today
The couple's life seems to have been dotted with crises for three years, against a backdrop of alcohol and drugs. In September, it was the spouse who was convicted by the same court for domestic violence. “This relationship is harmful. I should have filed a complaint a long time ago, I wouldn't be there today,” says the defendant.
Variations
She develops a story where the facts happen outside. A different version of his second audition, itself different from the first. The partner's version is corroborated by the investigators' findings. The thirty-year-old allegedly carried out these blows, then cut herself on the leg to overturn the accusation.
She was convicted seven times between 2012 and 2017, for acts related to theft and drugs. Pointing to a “toxic relationship”, the prosecution requires 18 months in prison, half of which is suspended. “She could have suffered some pretty terrible things. A woman held by her tormentor, when it leaves, it can hurt a lot,” considers Me Gaëtan Boutira. The defense lawyer points out a rather “confused” scene.
The court imposes a sentence of 18 months, including 12 months of probation over two years, and a ban on making contact. The young woman returns to prison.
