Friday, December 20, the City of Albi officially joined the 24 other municipalities of Tarn as an “Ambassador City for Organ Donation”.
On December 20, the City of Albi formalized its commitment to organ donation by signing the Charter of Ambassador Cities. Motorists and cyclists had already been able to observe signs displaying a green ribbon (symbol of organ donation) on several entrances to the city: at the École des Mines roundabout on the route de Teillet, route de Terssac and Cambon road.
Raise awareness about organ donation
Through this approach, the City of Albi wishes to raise awareness among Albigensians, by informing them widely about this action which saves lives.
The objective is also to encourage the population to think about organ donation and to discuss it with their loved ones. Indeed, organ donation concerns everyone, the law stipulating that everyone is presumed to be a donor, unless they have expressed a refusal during their lifetime.
Despite the commitment of health professionals, patient associations and the Biomedicine Agency, the number of transplants carried out each year remains insufficient. In France, two to three people die every day due to lack of available organs.
Support actions carried out by health professionals and volunteers
This adherence to the Charter of Organ Donation Ambassador Cities is part of a desire to support the actions carried out by health professionals and volunteers in the department, in collaboration with the France ADOT 81 association, representative of the Greffes+ collective. on the Tarn, and the relevant services at the Albi hospital center.
Gilbert Hangard, Deputy Mayor responsible for health, underlines: “This membership fully reflects the desire of the City of Albi to support awareness-raising actions carried out by associations and health stakeholders, particularly in our territory.”
