the Place du Maréchal Foch, soon under construction

The city center continues to get a facelift. This Monday December 23the town of announced to its residents the date of the official launch of the Place du Maréchal Foch construction site.

Large-scale works

Located in front of the prefecture of Tarn-et-Garonne, this place must be the subject major renovation work from Tuesday January 7, 2025.

These arrangements, which are part of the operation “City heart action“, will therefore allow the place of Marshal Foch to be “reimagined as a vast garden marking a green entrance to the city tour while offering a reinterpretation of the square of yesteryear,” detailed the City.

Secure and greenit will offer walkers a green space composed, among other things, of a majestic willow, a fountain, games for children but also a work by Antoine Bourdelle.

A project in several phases

While the duration of the construction site is estimated between ten and twelve monthsthis will take place in several phases :

  • from Tuesday January 7 : the work will initially begin near the “Le Raymond” café
  • from January 6 to 12 : Allée de l’Empereur will be closed to traffic
  • from January 13 to 26 : Allée de l'Empereur will be closed to traffic and Rue Notre-Dame will be accessible from Allées Mortarieu. Avenue Gambetta and Faubourg Lacapelle will be open to traffic.
  • from January 27 to February 16 : Rue Notre-Dame will be accessible from Allées Mortarieu. Avenue Gambetta and Faubourg Lacapelle will be open to traffic. It will be possible to travel from Place du Maréchal Foch towards Faubourg Lacapelle.
  • from February 17 to March 2 : Allée de l'Empereur will be closed to traffic. The Faubourg Lacapelle / Avenue Gambetta intersection will also be closed.

Still according to the Montalbanese municipality, the areas under construction will not be “more accessible to vehicle traffic and it will not be possible to park there“. Outside the construction site areas, pedestrian connections will be maintained and access to shops will be preserved.

As a reminder, the progress of the work will depend on climatic hazards as well as possible archaeological excavations.
