The Dakar flagrante delictos court delivered its verdict yesterday, Monday December 23, 2024, in the case between Oulimata Niass and police officer Soulèye Diémé. Accused of “violence and assault”, the defendant was sentenced to one month in prison with a suspended sentence.

According to Les Échos, residing in the Medina, Oulimata Niass had developed links with the police officers at the said police station where the father of her child, also a regular man, works. She worked as a phone credit seller in a kiosk located near this structure.

However, it all started during an argument. The newspaper indicates that an altercation broke out between her and Soulèye Diémé, colleague of the father of her child. According to the complaint filed by the police officer, he ordered Oulimata Niass to leave a rest room reserved for men. Faced with her refusal, he allegedly forced her to go out, which led to the incident. Soulèye Diémé claimed to have been injured in the hand by a broken bottle handled by the suspect.

Arrested and tried before the Dakar court, Oulimata Niass denied the facts and gave a completely different version. She accuses the police officer of making inappropriate comments to her. She claimed he allegedly insulted her several times despite her warnings.
According to her, the incident happened while she was performing ablution. After yet another provocation from Soulèye Diémé, she allegedly threatened to inform his mother. The police officer then tried to pull her away, but was injured by hitting a metal cabinet and not a broken bottle.

After examining the arguments of both parties, the court finally sentenced Oulimata Niass to one month in prison for “violence and assault.” »
