In the home stretch of Christmas, the people of Nantes came with family or friends to stroll through the Christmas market. While waiting for Santa to arrive in the evening, there were many on Place Royale and Place du Commerce this Tuesday afternoon.
Latest gifts
While some devour cotton candy or churros, others stop near the fountain on Place Royale to enjoy a glass of mulled wine under the cloudy sky. “We’re training for tonight*,” one family jokes**.
In the alleys, we review the chalets to find that rare pearl. A resident of Marseille buys a board game for his cousin while others leave with cheese to enhance their New Year's Eve dinner.
On the merchant side, it is also the final stretch. This December 24, 2024, the Christmas market closed its doors at 6 p.m. Selma Yaya in charge of the Mademoiselle Agathe stand and Charlotte, behind the counter of a jewelry chalet, are wearing a Santa hat.
“I have the impression that there are as many people as in previous editions,” confides Charlotte. “This year, there may be a few fewer customers doing their shopping at the last minute,” adds Selma.
As a reminder, the Christmas market is open to the public until December 31, 2024. Something to make up for if Santa made a mistake with the gifts, placed at the foot of the tree.
