Tensions erupted on Sunday evening in the Beauval district of Meaux (Seine-et-Marne), where the unauthorized filming of a rap clip degenerated into a clash with the police.
Two police officers were slightly injured during the scuffles. No suspect has yet been arrested.
A tense evening
Around 10 p.m., the police intervened at the corner of rue d'Alembert and avenue de l'Appel du June 18, 1940 to try to control the driver of a motocross bike driving in a dangerous manner. The presence of around fifty people gathered for the filming of a rap clip, organized without prior authorization in a parking lot between the Aquitaine and Argonne buildings, quickly increased tension.
As soon as they arrived, the police were met with projectiles. Reinforcements, including patrols from the anti-crime brigade (BAC), were dispatched. Despite their presence, the violence continued with homemade mortar fire targeting civil servants.
Barricades and fires
Around 11 p.m., a second call for intervention was launched following the fire of garbage containers set up as barricades on the avenue. Law enforcement used defensive bullet launchers (LBD) and Cougar grenade launchers to respond to the attacks.
After several return shots, calm returned around midnight. However, two police officers were injured: one suffered burns to his left thigh while the other was hit in the left arm.
Ongoing investigation
An investigation was opened for violence against law enforcement officers and destruction of property. For the moment, no suspect has been arrested as reported by actu.fr.
The authorities point out that public gatherings must be declared in advance in order to prevent this type of incident.
