A man was allegedly violently attacked in front of station as he left to take his train in the early morning to go to work.

An investigation into “intentional violence” was opened by the public prosecutor's office after the beating of a fifty-year-old near the Antibes station (Alpes-Maritimes) on December 12. A complaint was filed by the family of this man, a 55-year-old carpenter, who was leaving to take his train in the early morning to go to work, according to his wife's account, relayed by the local media. News and on a Facebook group of Antibes residents a week later. On the social network, she mentions “a serious assault on [mon] spouse between 5:50 a.m. and 6 a.m. on avenue Jules-Grec”.

His partner also shares a photo: the man is hospitalized and almost disfigured, his face reddened by bruises. “The image speaks for itself, of the violence of the aggression”she writes, referring to injuries to the lung, to the eye – for which he must undergo an operation – and to the ribs, four of which are said to be fractured. In her message, which is also intended to be a call for witnesses, she mentions “three young people” who allegedly took the fifty-year-old to task, for no particular reason, other than a verbal exchange after a slight jostling.

The victim was taken care of by the firefighters early in the morning of Thursday, December 12 and the police reported a fight in their notes. “The investigation is progressing quite slowly because there are few elements, apart from this indirect testimony”explains a police source. Investigations, carried out by the local Antibes judicial police service, are underway to try to find out the exact circumstances of this violent altercation.

CCTV cameras in the surrounding area are being exploited, but at this stage, “there are no images of the attack itself”confides a police officer. The SNCF did not provide additional feedback, we learned. The police have not yet made any arrests. The victim must still be interviewed once his state of health has improved.
