AJ Auxerre coach Christophe Pelissier spoke after the elimination of his team in the French Cup against Dunkirk (0-1), the only small surprise this Sunday.
“It’s a logical elimination. We were absent from the debates for the first 45 minutes. Afterwards, we raised the level a little with entries in the second half but it was too little to be able to qualify. When you put in a performance like this, especially in the first half, there is no need to be disappointed. Simply, we must congratulate the opponent who was better than us. In these matches, we always want those who have little playing time to show that I am wrong about my compositions or that they are better. Tonight, unfortunately for them and for us, they didn't show it. This is a questioning that must be permanent in high-level football. I told them to recover well during the rest week. This match does not call into question our first part of the season, far from it. But it shows some people the limits when we don't put in the demands or the intensity. When we see the result, we can say to ourselves that we may have had too many turnovers. But in the turnovers made, many were forced. Players were injured, others were under threat of suspension in the event of a yellow card. But normally, success is that of a group, like in the first part of the season because everyone performs well, whether in training or during the start-ups. There, some had the opportunity to start a match. I am disappointed with the performance which leads to a logical elimination. »
