Rennes, a time led on the Bordeaux field, finally enforced the hierarchy by winning 4 to 1, Sunday in the 32nd final of the Coupe de France.
But facing a Bordeaux team which is now playing in National 2, Jorge Sampaoli's men were surprised at the end of the first quarter of an hour by Soufiane Bahassa, author of a superb volley from 18 meters directly under the crossbar.
It took them eleven minutes to react thanks to a header from their captain of the day Adrien Truffert, served by a tense cross from Lorenz Assignon.
The debates, balanced during a long half despite the three divisions of difference, ended up smiling on the residents of L1 and their Welshman Jordan James, who adjusted the local goalkeeper Lassana Diabaté with a strike from 20 meters (59 ').
Despite the support of nearly 20,000 spectators, the Girondins gave up physically after the hour mark, conceding two new goals from Assignon (75') and Arnaud Kalimuendo (79').
Like Saint-Brieuc and Brest, Rennes will therefore play the 16e final of the Coupe de France.
