Thiès, Dec 22 (APS) – The Youth College of the National Council for Consultation and Cooperation of Rural People of Senegal (CNCR) and the National Youth Council of Senegal in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, organized a national consultation on Friday in Thiès as part of the process of revising the agrosylvopastoral (LOASP) and fisheries law, noted the APS.
“The Senegal 2050 framework has placed young people at the center of its concerns,” said the Minister, Secretary of State for Cooperatives and Peasant Supervision, Alpha Bâ.
“Whatever public policies we want to initiate, whatever thoughts we want to implement, if young people are not at the center, we will have failed,” he said.
The first reason is that the current flagship demand of the Senegalese revolves around the need to satisfy the social demand brought by young people, noted the official. The second is that “in 2050 according to statistics, the Senegalese population will be 30 million and of this figure, 70% will be under 25 years old”.
Hence the central place that young people must occupy, as a “priority target”, in the discussions to be carried out, indicated the Secretary of State for Cooperatives and Peasant Supervision.
“It is happy to see here the CNCR Youth College and the National Youth Council,” he rejoiced.
The president of the National Youth Council of Senegal, Khadim Diop followed suit, showing himself aware of the crucial role that young people must play in the definition of public policies, given their significant proportion in the general population.
Which justifies, in his eyes, the involvement by the government and its partners of Senegalese youth in the revision of the Agrosylvopastoral and Fisheries Law.
“As young people, we will make proposals, especially in relation to the participation of young people, but also in relation to (their) involvement in the creation of wealth through agriculture,” assured Mr. Diop, who aims to to see the emergence of “wealth-creating youth”
