A tragedy mourned the gendarmerie this Friday, December 20, 2024, in Hersin-Coupigny (Pas-de-Calais). A 48-year-old gendarme died of a cardiac arrest while on duty, around 2 p.m., according to our information.
Emergency assistance mobilized
Faced with this emergency, emergency services were quickly dispatched to the scene. A rescue and victim assistance vehicle (VSAV) of Bully-les-Mines, the SMUR of Béthuneas well as a various intervention vehicle (VID) of Nœux-les-Mines were mobilized.
Despite the efforts of medical teams and the use of a semi-automatic defibrillator, combined with cardiopulmonary resuscitation maneuvers, the gendarme unfortunately could not be saved.
A psychological unit set up
Faced with this tragedy, a psychological cell was immediately put in place to support the colleagues of the deceased gendarme, deeply affected by this loss.
An investigation to determine the circumstances
An investigation was opened and entrusted to an external unit of the gendarmerie. It aims to shed light on the precise circumstances of this tragic incident which occurred in the exercise of the victim's duties.
