Asvel continues to surprise and shine on the European scene. Friday evening, the Villeurbannais achieved a new feat by winning on the floor of Kaunas (72-78), three days after their victory in Belgrade against Partizan.
Deprived of four major players, including Lauvergne for personal reasons, the Villeurbanne team nevertheless dominated the best defense in the Euroleague. Always in control of its game, Asvel was only led on rare occasions and was able to extinguish key Zalgiris players, like Lonnie Walker IV, totally neutralized (0 points, -1 rating ).
In attack, Melvin Ajinca once again shone with 17 points (4/7 from three points), well supported by a team who knew how to share the ball effectively. A performance all the more remarkable as it comes in a context of injuries and absence.
A “play in” dream within reach
Thanks to this perfect week marked by two away successes, Asvel is getting closer to the European Top 10, synonymous with qualification for the “play in”. On Sunday, Asvel will have the opportunity to confirm its excellent form by welcoming Paris Basket to the LDLC Arena, before continuing its quest to qualify for the European Cup play-offs.
