The indiscretions of the week in Limousin and New Aquitaine

History

Thursday January 9 at 10:50 p.m., 3 Nouvelle-Aquitaine will broadcast the documentary Little Russia, stories of a maquisfrom Limougeaud Patrick Séraudie. “Little Russia” was the nickname given by the German general staff during the Second World War to the Limousin mountain. This film returns to the Limousin Resistance in the footsteps of Georges Guingouin, from his escape in June 1940 to the liberation of on August 21, 1944.

Quite an art

The Nouvelle-Aquitaine region accounts for 12% of the artistic and creative economy in France. This is what we learn from the latest ISM-MAAF study which analyzes the figures for business creation, training and the density of craft businesses in the artistic and creative professions. At the end of 2024, there are therefore around 14,200 craft businesses in New Aquitaine. In detail, there are 830 artistic craft businesses in Haute-, including 230 in Limoges alone (which makes it the second most dynamic city in this area in New Aquitaine, behind ). The manufacture of ceramic items is, unsurprisingly, the leading art profession with 110 companies working in this field in the department. In Corrèze, 70 companies out of a total of 580 specialize in the manufacturing of jewelry items, while in Creuse, 40 out of a total of 360 concentrate on the manufacturing and finishing of various furniture. As for the training courses that attract the most to the Limoges academy, the CAP cabinetmaking and the BTS fashion and clothing professions come out on top with 20 apprentices each.

No signature

The election for the presidency of the University of Limoges will take place on Monday January 6. And it will have consequences for students who will need to sign an internship agreement. They were warned that “Dean Vincent Cousseau will no longer be able to sign the internship agreements, as well as other documents, given the suspension of all signing delegations”. A situation which it is specified should last “at least three weeks. »

Gifts

As the end-of-year holidays quickly approach, Pixpay's Teenage Lab, the payment card for teenagers co-managed by parents, unveils the 4th edition of its annual study “Christmas gifts: the habits of the French » for the year 2024.
The opportunity to learn that one in two adolescents prefer to receive money rather than a gift, while 26% of parents remain attached to the traditional gift. This year, parents chose to offer an average of €114 in cash as a gift to their children.
In New Aquitaine, teenagers who receive money will benefit from €126 as a Christmas gift. An amount which places them among the most spoiled children in France where the national average is €114.

Change

Following the departure of Gérard Blanchard, who once again became president of the University of , the regional executive has undergone some changes. And Corrèze elected official Philippe Nauche, until then vice-president in charge of tourism, took the health portfolio in place of Françoise Jeanson, who is taking over higher education.

Taliban?

Participating in its own way in the Region's budgetary discussion, the National Rally proposed “a 20% reduction in subsidies to cultural associations. The Region is not a counter.” In return, the RN group took a volley of green wood. “You show the social project that you are proposing, that is to say constraining freedom of expression. You prefer, to culture, the hatred of the other”, we exclaimed from the environmentalist ranks. President Alain Rousset went further: “Ultimately, it is the same speech that the Taliban make towards women in Afghanistan. The power of the far right is to stifle culture.”

Jealous

If, from Limousin, we sometimes have the impression of being a little forgotten by Bordeaux, the vision is not the same when we approach the Pyrenees. An elected official from Lot-et-Garonne thus demanded that the Region finance road works. Which it never does, except to participate in the opening up of Limoges by the RN141. “Yes, except for the pet!” », Launched the elected official from , turning a jealous glance towards Guillaume Guérin.

Help the communists

Never short of ideas for saving money, the regional RN also proposed eliminating the cooperation budget which sees, for example, aid of €600,000 going to development projects in the Lao Caï region, in Vietnam. . “If you are so keen to support your communist comrades in Vietnam, I suggest you ask the communist party to put its hand in its pocket,” joked the RN rapporteur. In another tone, on the LR benches, we called for “real expertise for all these partnerships. We cannot, on the one hand, explain that we are on the verge of bankruptcy, and be the good Samaritans of the entire planet.” In support of the project, an elected environmentalist insisted on the “necessary solidarity in the face of the economic inequalities that exist between the different countries, between the different regions”.

Support for local information

The regional environmentalist group put to the vote a motion “for support for local information in our territories”, recalling that “the press is experiencing an unprecedented crisis, in particular the local press”, and also worrying for the future of public broadcasting and community radio. The LR and center groups voted against.

For prisoners…and their families

It was widely reported in our pages, the Limoges Bar Association and the French section of the International Prison Observatory took legal action to force the Prison Administration to comply with the law in matters of detention, at the Limoges remand center, which had become unworthy. A legal victory, because the Limoges administrative court ordered the Chancellery to take urgent measures to improve detention conditions. The losing party also had to pay €1,800 corresponding to legal fees incurred by the International Prison Observatory and the Order of Lawyers, defended respectively by Me Arnaud and Me Guillaume Laverdure. The International Prison Observatory, the Limoges Bar Association and their two councils have chosen to donate this sum to the Limogeau association of Halte-Vincent, whose mission is to welcome, listen and support families of prisoners. A selfless and generous gesture to offer a little comfort to these families during these end-of-year holidays, which are often difficult for them.

Second hand

Leboncoin, the leading French e-commerce site in France, is a real observatory of consumption at Christmas. Also, Leboncoin wanted to understand who these French people are who buy their second-hand gifts at Christmas, how old are they, what are they looking for, where do they come from? What are the most anticipated brands under the tree? While one in two French people have already bought a second-hand gift, Leboncoin (through a survey conducted by the IFOP) reveals that the younger generations buy their second-hand gifts more than other generations (57% of 18- 24 year olds have already given this type of gift, as have 59% of 25-49 year olds versus 28% of those 65 and over). The , and Nouvelle-Aquitaine form the top three regions whose inhabitants buy their gifts second-hand, while Île-de-France places itself in last position. Games, toys and electronics are the categories most affected by seasonality (both in terms of supply and demand).
