Diamniadio, Dec 20 (APS) – The Ministry of Agriculture, Food Sovereignty and Livestock intends to work on the pooling of programs and projects with a view to synergizing actions to effectively serve the most disadvantaged populations, underlined an official from this ministerial department.
The Ministry of Agriculture, Food Sovereignty and Livestock will work to “pool all synergies in projects and programs to serve the most disadvantaged populations” said in particular Pape Samba Dièye, the minister's chief of staff.
He chaired Friday in Diamniadio (Rufisque) the 2nd session of the National Steering Committee of the Multinational Program for Strengthening Resilience to Food and Nutritional Insecurity in the Sahel (P2P2RS), organized at the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Sovereignty and of Livestock, in Diamniadio, in the presence of representatives of the ministries and governors of the regions concerned, as well as deputies and members of producer organizations.
The minister's representative praised the “excellent work” of the coordination team.
This is, he said, a project which will promote resilience, fight against the risks of the effects of climate change in the regions of Fatick, Tambacounda and Matam, by being close to the populations, with an envelope of 20 billion CFA francs, financed by Senegal and partners.
He assured that this project will contribute to the creation of infrastructure and provide support to the most disadvantaged populations in the targeted areas.
The Program to Strengthen Resilience to Food and Nutritional Insecurity in the Sahel (P2RS) is a multinational initiative and concerns member countries of the Interstate Committee to Combat Drought in the Sahel (CILSS).
Phase 1 of this program is taking place in 7 CILSS member countries.
It is financed with the support of the African Development Bank (AfDB), the West African Development Bank (BOAD) and the Canadian Climate Fund for an amount of 20 billion FCFA. The project operates in 15 municipalities located in the departments of Matam, Kanel, Bakel, Fatick and Foundiougne.
