The authorities considered that the Tours club was not able to guarantee security inside the enclosure. A cancellation just before the meeting which provoked the anger of the supporters.
The Coupe de France round of 32 match between Tours (R1) and Lorient (L2), scheduled for Saturday at 6:00 p.m., was canceled for security reasons, the French Football Federation announced on Saturday.
“The prefecture of Indre et Loire and the Town Hall of Tours noted that FC Tours was not able to put in place a system to guarantee the holding of the match in terms of welcoming the public”explains the FFF in a press release published on its website.
“The Organizing Commission of the Coupe de France will examine the follow-up to be given”adds the instance without further details and calls the spectators accordingly “not to go to the Vallée du Cher stadium”.
Following administrative demotions, Tours, still in Ligue 2 six years ago, in Regional 1 this season, is one of the smallest teams still competing in the Coupe de France.
Only Mérignac, eliminated on penalties by Laval (L2) on Friday and Still-Mutzig who faces Reims (L1) on Sunday, have also reached this stage of the competition which sees Ligue 1 clubs making their entry.
Dissatisfied supporters
This decision was inevitably very poorly received by the club's faithful who did not fail to express their anger. “Good for nothing”storms one of them on the social network X under the message announcing the cancellation. “It’s shameful”, “you are rubbish”, “This club will never advance” support other supporters.
“Shame, explain that to your 7-year-old who was just waiting for his match all week + the Lorient supporters who are already there or on the road!”annoys another follower of the club. “And you couldn’t see it before??? Until late last night, people were queuing to collect tickets What a waste of time”laments another.
