The island of Mayotte was devastated by Cyclone Chido on December 14, 2024, the most violent cyclone in 90 years. According to provisional figures, 31 deaths and some 2,500 injured have been officially recorded.
Johanna Rolland, mayor of Nantes and president of Nantes Métropole, announced that she wanted to propose sending “emergency aid of 20,000 euros” to the next Metropolitan Office next January.
In solidarity with the populations of Mayotte, and as part of the surge of national solidarity, I hoped that Nantes Métropole would mobilize, providing exceptional support to the Civil Protection engaged on site to come to the aid of the affected populations.
Aid sent to Civil Protection
The aid of 20,000 euros will be sent to Civil Protection which “is engaged in a surge of solidarity to come to the aid of the affected populations, and is putting in place emergency actions to respond to essential needs and support local residents on site. elected officials and their fellow citizens in this unprecedented tragedy.”
The Protection Civile deploys an emergency system to provide support:
- distribution of food and emergency materials: water, food and other products
essential; - clearing of disaster areas to allow access to disaster areas and evacuate the injured;
- health support;
- psychological support.
