In order to guarantee safety along the platforms, security gantries, as in Paris, will be installed in the metro by 2035.

Line A of the Lyon metro will have a facelift with the installation of security gates, like those on line 14 of the Paris metro. These glass barriers, fitted with sliding landing doors, will be placed at the edge of the platforms to avoid any risk of falls. This project, by 2035, aims to strengthen passenger safety, in particular by making access to trains more secure.

More than 30 years ago, Lyon made the bold choice to launch its first automatic line, line D, without glass screen doors. A bet which, clearly, will no longer be enough in the face of growing security needs in modern urban transport. Bruno Bernard, the environmentalist president of Sytral Mobilités, announced this measure during a meeting of elected officials in advance Progressemphasizing that these gantries would be essential to “prevent falls”.

20 new automatic trains for line A

The installation of the gantries is part of a vast modernization program for line A, which also includes the purchase of 20 new automatic trains. This development will not only strengthen safety, but also increase the transport capacity of line A by 50% by 2040.
