This Monday, the municipality presented its 2024 report on gender equality in its services. An important cause for the elected officials of Poitiers (Vienna). For several years, measures have been taken to move towards perfect professional equality. For 2025, the creation of menstrual leave and the extension of paternity leave were voted on, report our colleagues from France Bleu.
The men and women who work for the city of Poitiers have reason to rejoice. After reducing salary gaps and creating lasting contracts for after-school leaders, elected officials are further strengthening the rights of their civil servants in order to further promote equality between the sexes.
Ten weeks of paternity leave
The first measure concerns women. Agents will benefit from two days of menstrual leave from January 2025, without any penalty: no waiting days, no loss of salary. Only a certificate from the doctor will be necessary, who will also be the only person to know the reasons for the absence, officially described as “special”.
The other change concerns men, particularly future fathers. Agents will see their paternity leave increase from four to ten weeks, like that granted to mothers. This six-week extension can even be used twice, depending on needs. Elected officials hope to promote equality within couples.
